Loops APK

Loops APK (Loops by Pixelfed) is a free, open-source short-video app and an ethical alternative to TikTok. It was created by Daniel Supernault, the developer of Pixelfed. After starting as a side-loadable APK, Loops officially arrived on Google Play on June 15, 2026, and recent updates added direct messages, group chats and push notifications.

This guide covers what Loops is, its features, how it compares with TikTok and how to download the official Loops APK.

What is Loops?

Loops gives you a swipeable vertical video feed like TikTok or Reels, but with no ads, no tracking and no engagement-driven algorithm by default. It is community-funded and open source (AGPLv3).

Loops is part of the fediverse through ActivityPub, so people on Mastodon and Pixelfed can follow Loops creators, see their videos and even send them direct messages.

Key Features of Loops

1. Short-Video Feed

Swipe through vertical videos, with an optional algorithmic For You feed you can turn on yourself.

2. Creator Tools

Record with the in-app camera, add captions and reuse community sounds.

3. Duets and 3-Minute Videos

Creators can allow duets on their videos, and videos can now be up to 3 minutes long.

4. DMs and Group Chats

Chat privately or in groups – messages also work with Mastodon users.

5. Starter Kits and Playlists

Follow curated Starter Kits to fill your feed with creators fast, and organise videos into playlists.

6. Safety Controls

Hide AI-generated or sensitive videos, see AI and ad labels, and switch between multiple accounts.

Loops vs TikTok

TikTok is owned by a company and earns money from ads and data. Loops is community-funded, open source and runs on independent servers. The trade-off is a smaller community – but it has been growing fast since the Play Store launch.

How to Download and Install Loops APK

1. Tap Get it on Google Play on this page.
2. Install Loops and create an account on loops.video or another Loops server.

Is Loops APK Safe?

Yes. The old side-load APK on GitHub is archived, so the Google Play version is now the official and safest way to get the latest Loops app.
